Is It Normal to Be Afraid of Death?

When I was young, the thought of dying would send me into a spiral of anxiety. My mind struggled to grasp the concept of nothingness. Even with the comforting thought of being in God’s arms after death, I couldn’t control the fear that gripped my entire body.

So, is it normal to be afraid of death? At first, I thought my fear was unique. I felt isolated, believing no one else could possibly share this intense anxiety. But as I spoke to others, I discovered many people feel the same way. Some suggested my fear stemmed from not having achieved enough in life yet, while others attributed it to my age.

Now, at 28, I’ve accomplished a few things, but I still don’t feel I’ve lived life to the fullest. The fear of death remains, but I’ve come to realize it serves a purpose. This fear is normal and can be a powerful motivator. It pushes us to appreciate life more deeply and to strive for meaningful experiences.

For those of you who share this fear, know that you’re not alone. Embracing this fear can lead to a greater appreciation of the present and inspire us to live our lives with more intention and purpose. It’s normal to be afraid of death, but it’s also an opportunity to cherish life even more.
