Bloating isn’t new to me. I’ve dealt with it before, but for the longest time, I just “YOLO-ed” my way through, ignoring the do’s and don’ts and hoping it would magically go away. Spoiler: it didn’t.
About a year ago, I finally got it checked out. The verdict? I needed to avoid coffee, beer, chocolate, and junk food. Recently, I also learned that even drinking through a straw can make bloating worse. This time, I decided to take the advice seriously and commit to real changes.
The biggest shift I made was swapping rice for crackers. I haven’t touched rice in two weeks, and I can already feel the difference, I’m lighter, less sluggish, and more in control of my eating habits. I’ve kept up with my 30-minute daily exercise routine, too.
Giving up rice is tough, especially in a country where it’s practically a national treasure, but I’m managing. I find restaurants that serve bread or pasta instead, and since I rarely eat out, just once a week, that day becomes my cheat day.
Another challenge has been my love for coffee. Since it’s off-limits, I’ve been customizing my drinks at coffee shops to be low-sugar, lower in calories, and mostly oat milk or matcha-based. It’s tricky for a coffee lover, but I’m adapting, and honestly, it feels empowering to make healthier choices without completely giving up the café experience.
Right now, my weight hovers between 51 and 50 kg, but my goal is to hit 49 kg again. With these changes, I’m optimistic I’ll get there and stay there.
