I recently experienced something really special for the first time, I attended a christening as a godmother to my friend’s little one.
I’ve been to christenings before, of course, but being there this time felt completely different. I wasn’t just a guest watching from the crowd. I had a role to play, and knowing that my friend trusted me enough to be one of her child’s godparents made the day even more meaningful.
At first, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I was excited, but also a little nervous. There’s something about being called a godmother that makes you realize that it’s more than just being there for the photos or giving gifts on special occasions. It feels like being given a small but important responsibility in a child’s life.
The christening itself was beautiful. Watching my friend’s child receive their blessing and being surrounded by family and loved ones made the whole moment feel extra special. I found myself thinking about how quickly children grow and how lucky I am to have been included in such an important milestone.
Being a godmother is something I’ll probably understand more as the years go by. Maybe it means being the fun godmother who brings gifts and treats, the person they can talk to when they’re older, or simply someone who will always cheer them on from the sidelines.
For now, though, I’m just grateful.
Grateful that my friend trusted me. Grateful that I got to be part of such an important day. And grateful that I now have a little person in my life who I get to watch grow up.
My first christening as a godmother, definitely a memory I’ll treasure.
